Meet Captain Bill Hammond . . .
Ever since Bill Hammond was a little boy he has always
wanted to travel the high seas. Always dreaming of
some adventure or some world record catch he might
make when he got older. He loved spending time with his
Grandparents on their live-aboard boat, The Topaz, on the
East Coast of Florida and the tales his Grandparents would tell.

Luckily, Bill was born in Sarasota, Florida. If he was born anywhere
else in the world he would have eventually made it here. His parents
moved the family to Fort Myers 1977 and have made a home here. It was
an easy adjustment only being an hours drive away from his birthplace.
Bill's father is the Deputy County Administrator and the namesake for
Hammond Stadium, the spring training baseball stadium for the
Minnesota Twins.
Bill took to the waterways here right away, spending hours
fishing the saltwater creeks, rivers and mangrove islands of
the Fort Myers area. He became a proficient angler and
outdoorsman. The area became as familiar as the back of
his hand.
Having saltwater in his blood he moved upon a 28' Oday Sailboat
after high school graduation. He lived there for a couple years
eventually meeting his wife, Angela. Angela loved the water almost as
much as Bill. It was meant to be. Realizing he might want to get some
college under his belt he moved to Orlando to pursue a degree in
Hospitality Management at Valencia College. Luckily, Bill lived on a
lake in Winter Park, Florida where the Bass were
plentiful and a canoe was supplied.
His love for this area had never stopped growing.
After attending college he couldn't wait to come back
to his home. He got his dream job running the
docks at Sanibel Harbour Resort, Spa & Marina.
There he was in charge of checking in the guests
and their boats and making sure they were taken care
of and their boats were secured. He also ran
a charter boat called the Miss Paradise for Adventures
in Paradise out of Sanibel Harbour Resort. Since he was
not a certified captain at the time the law required one to be on board.
That's where he met Master Mariner, Capt. Joe Christian. Joe was a
thirty year Senior Pilot for the Panama Canal and was one of seven
Captains that held a pilot's license for every major port in the world. He
learned a wealth of information and a few high seas tales from the old
retired Captain. They became fast friends. Joe gave Bill some of his old
Captain's books because of Bill's interest in pursuing a career as a
Captain.
Since then Capt. Bill has scouted just about every waterway and
mangrove island in the area. He delights in sharing what this area has
offer and loves to tell a tale or two of his own. Now Bill loves giving the
experience of S.W. Florida to those that have never seen it and a new
perspective to those who have.
Being a full time career fishing guide who is on the water 250+ days a
year you are guaranteed the best fishing experience available. He
continually furthers his education as a Captain and has now gained
his Master Captain's license.
